Pembangunan Kebun Raya Daerah Dan Peran Strateginya Dalam Menghadapi Dampak Perubahan Iklim Global
It is well understood that global climate change unquestionably causes negative impact to plant diversity. In responding to this phenomenon botanic gardens can play strategic roles to combat the loss of the diversity through their conservation and research activities, as well as educational and public awareness programmes. The importance of ex situ conservation carried out by botanic gardens is much more emphasized by the high rate of deforestation and natural habitat degradation. In a more narrowed context, at the national level the development of provincial (local) botanic gardens in Indonesia should be viewed as a strategic contribution towards halting the loss of Indonesian plant diversity including those that endangered by global climate change. Thus, the development of provincial (local) botanic gardens should be accelerated, and common efforts of all relevant parties involved should be strengthened and promoted synergistically.
