Pengaruh pemakaian hormon tumbuh GA3 (Giberelinacid) terhadap perkecambahan dan pertumbuhan biji Verschaffeltia splendida H.A. Wendl.

Verschaffeltia splendida HA Wendi is the only species of genus Verschaffeltia. It belongs to the family of Arecaceae. This species has an economic value as an ornamental plant, but its growth is very slow and the seed is difficult to germinate. The aim of this research was to study the effect of soaking in water at room temperature and Giberelin Acid (GA) as the dormancy breaker to the seed viability of V. splendida. Measurements were conducted on seed characteristics such as weight, length and diameter, also on water content, seed viability, and plant height. The result shows that presoaking treatment in water at room temperature and GAJ (L500 ppm) can give the higher seed viability (78.67 ± 15.14%), shorter germinating time (12 days after sowing) and higher plant height (7.5 ± 1.62%) than control (without presoaking treatment).
