Factors Influencing Coral Reef Biodiversity in Caribbean and Indo-Pacific
Coral reefs are estimated lying on approximately 284,300 square kilometers of marine environment. However, they only occupy a small area of the world oceans, which is roughly 0.089 percent. This tiny ecosystem is facing rapid degradation due to environmental changes and global climate change. The influences of various environmental factors on coral abundance and diversity are still in debate, which thus, requires more advanced studies and monitoring platforms. This paper conveys a preliminary literature study on factors that may influence coral reefs in two big areas. In particular, studies are encouraged to develop our knowledge on environmental factors and how they induce and form coral reef diversities in the Indo-Pacific and Caribbean regions.
