Anatomical and Physical Properties of Fast Growing Wood Species from Central Kalimantan as a Structural Material
Limited information of wood basic properties was believed as a dominant factor that causing the fast growing wood species are not used until now. We try to analysis the anatomical and physical properties of several fast growing wood species from forest industries which has a natural concession area in Central Kalimantan. The aim of this study was to know the anatomical and physical properties of wood as a guidance to determine the potential utilization of the wood. Each of wood species has an unique charateristic of the anatomical properties that could be affected to the wood processing. The range density of the wood species in wet, air dry, and oven dry are 0.48-0.73 g/cm3, 0.5-0.79 g/cm3, and 0.54-0.86 g/cm3, respectively. The density of wood was categorized as a high density which were promising as a raw material for structural purposes. For the value of T/R ratio, there were 3 species which have a low value of T/R ratio : Tristaniopsis whiteana, Bellucia pentandra, and Nauclea junghuhnii.
