Effect Of Antagonistic Bacteria And Bio-Organic Fertilizer To Control Fusarium Wilt In Banana Seedlings (Musa acuminata var. Cavendish)

Terbatas

Bananas are widely cultivated in tropical countries and one of the most important economic crops. Its cultivation in Indonesia is, however, hampered by the wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) infections. The disease control is difficult because the pathogens form chlamidiospores in soil and are survive for a long period. Application of bacteria as biocontrol agents was an alternative method to suppres Fusarium wilt in banana. The objective of this research was to find out the efficacy of rhizosphere and endophytic bacteria with antagonism activity and bio-organic fertilizer application against Foc infection in banana and their effect for plant growth. The following treatments were included to test their effect on Fusarium wilt disease severity, Foc population in banana rhizosphere area and growth of the seedlings. There are five treatments, included: Healthy control, Foc infested control, rhizosphere bacteria (Bacillus sp. 140-B and Streptomyces sp. L-3.1.DW), endophytic bacteria (Burkholderia sp. L.K2-TR and Paenibacillus sp. L.I1-TR), bio-organic fertilizer and mixture of them. Each treatment was replicated five times and this experimental was observed for 30 days under greenhouse condition. Our results showed that application of antagonistic bacteria and bio-organic fertilizer gave a better result compare to control. Endophytic bacteria was better than other treatments with the lowest disease severity of Foc infection was 13.57 persen and Foc population was 2.5x105 spores/ml. Application of endophytic bacteria also gave the highest effect on growth of banana seedlings.
