Effect of Heat Treatment on the Properties of Mg-Ca-Zn Alloy Prepared by Powder Metallurgy Method
Mg-Ca-Zn alloy is one of Mg alloy that has been investigated for its potential in metal foam implant application. In this study, Mg-Ca-Zn alloy was prepared by powder metallurgy method, comprising of green compact fabrication and its subsequent heat treatment. The composition of Mg-Ca-Zn alloy was varied, along with the heat treatment, profile to study the effect on phase formation and structural properties. The as-sintered alloys were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The phase analysis results showed that Mg-Ca-Zn alloy was formed, in addition of Mg2Ca phase. It also indicated an occurrence of solid-solution strengthening in which Zn acted as dispersive material in Mg matrix. Prosiding International Conference of Advance Material 2014
