Konservasi Eksitu Jenis Begonia Alam Pegunungan Sumatra di Kebun Raya Cibodas, Jawa Barat

Conservation activities of native Begonia species from the mountain Sumatera were conducted in Cibodas Botanical Garden (CBG) since 1930. This study aimed to describe the ex situ conservation activity of native Begonia from Sumatera in CBG during the last ten years (2007-2017). The diversity and their distribution of Sumatran begonia were recorded based on living collection in CBG, added with specimen herbarium of Andalas University (ANDA) and Cianjur Hortus Tjibodasensis (CHTJ). Propagation, pests, and diseases of begonia were recorded for two years (2015-2017). The results, thirteen Sumatran begonia have been conserved in CBG, added to native begonia species that have been conserved in Bogor Botanical Garden. Begonia can be reproduced by generative and vegetative organs. In vitro plant regeneration of B. leuserensis, B. atricha and B. scottii, endemic and rare begonia of Sumatra, has been done for increasing living collection in the bottle. However, only 45 percent of 29 mountain begonia of Sumatera were collected in CBG. Further, an intensive exploration of Sumateran Begonia is strongly recommended.
