Merbau (Intsia bijuga (Colebr.) O. Kuntze) di Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon Banten

Intsia bijuga (Colebr.) O. Kuntze is a species of conservation importance since it is highly threatened in its natural habitat. Distribution from Tanzania and Madagascar through southern India and Burma, towards Malesia, Northern Australia and Polynesia. The ecological study of Intsia bijuga was conducted in Ujung Kulon National Park to assess its population and habitat characteristics as the basis for the conservation actions of the species. Explorative and descriptive methods were used in this study. Samples were determined by means of purposive sampling method. The results showed that there were at least 3 individual of Intsia bijuga recorded in Ujung Kulon National Park, containing of 3 trees. The habitat of the species was a lowland area and near of the sea, 2-8 m asl altitude, with about 0-40% canopy shade. In this habitat, the tree of Intsia bijuga were up to 30 m tall and 2 m in diameter with 30 m wide canopy. I. bijuga come together in Solokan Duyung, Cape of Ciparepet, and Karang Ranjang areas.
