Efektivitas dua periode waktu dan beberapa metode penyimpanan terhadap biji Garcinia picrorhiza Miq.
Garcinia picrorhiza Miq. is a member of the Clusiaceae family that has high economic value. The seed of G.picrorhiza is defined as a recalsitrant seed that can not be stored for long time without loss its viability, usually when its moisture content reaches below 10%. Good storage method is needed in order to maintain moisture content and viability. This study was conducted in the glasshouse of Treub Laboratory, Bogor Botanic Gardens, from November to December 2009. The seeds were obtained from the Seed Bank Unit from collection number VI.A.26 which were harvested in October 2009. The aim of this study is to understand the storage behaviour of G. picrorhiza in two different time periode using various storage methods. There were three different trials used in this experiment: 1) Seeds were wrapped using aluminium foils; 2) Seeds were stored in paper bags; and 3) Seeds were kept in transparant plastic bags. Two steps were also applied, with three replicates for each step: 1) seeds were stored for 30 days at room temperature and 2) seeds were kept for 40 days at room temperature. Furthermore, seed moisture contents and viabilities were tested for each treatment. This study showed that the most effective storage was when the seed were stored for 30 days at room temperature. The best storage method was wrapping the seeds with Aluminium foil. This method showed the highest germination rate (73,33 ± 0,577350269 %). In addition, this method also indicated that the seeds were first germinated within 14 days after sowing.
