Survival And Growth Of Sandfish Holothuria scabra Juvenile Reared in Various Tanks And Rearing Condition

Terbatas

The production of Sandfish, Holoturia scabra through hatchery operation has developed significantly to address both decreasing natural population and increasing market demand. In the culture of H. scabra, the early stage developments including larvae and juveniles are the most crucial stage. In 2013, Research and Devlopment Divison for Marine Bio Industry (BBIL) LIPI conducted a study to assess the growth performance of H. scabra juvenile reared in different type of rearing tanks (indoor concrete tank, rectangular fiberglass tank, outdoor concrete tank with 1 mm hapa mesh and outdoor concrete tank with 3 mm hapa mesh). After 20 weeks of experimental period, the larvae reared in outdoor concrete tank with 1 mm mesh showed the highest performance by 48.89±3.85 persen of survival rate, 22.07±1.01 g of average final weight, 162.05±18.17 g of final biomass and 0.15±0.03 persen day-1 of specific growth rate. Further study on the combination of rearing tank and bottom substrate is needed to maximize the production of H. scabra through the hatchery operation.
