The Effect of Pretreatments on the Dissolutions of Impurities from Cassiterite-Indonesia Mineral
The purpose of research was to purify and to investigate the effects of pretreatment on the impurities dissolution of cassiterite from Bangka Island in Indonesia. The processing steps were characterization, pretreatment and leaching processes by hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution. The samples were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) techniques, then carried out pretreatments included leaching with water, roasting at 700 oC and combinations of leaching with water – roasting at 700 oC. The lastly step was cassiterite resulted from pretreatment and without pretreatment leached using 10 persenwt. HCl solution in various temperatures of 35 - 150 oC for 2 hours in atmospheric conditions. The results showed that the chemistry composition of cassiterite was as follows: 57.82 persen Sn, 0.45 persen Si, 1.45 persen Ti, 1,79 persen Fe, 3.43 persen La, 3.37 persen Ce. The best condition for purification of cassiterite was processes of leaching without pretreatment that has the highest dissolution of associated mineral from cassiterite than other combinations for leaching at 110 oC for 2 hours. This research was able to purify cassiterite with a chemical composition as follows: 66.14 persen Sn, 0.27 persen Si, 1.38 persen Ti, 1,18 persen Fe, 2.12 persen La, 2.03 persen Ce. These results are quite satisfactory because this technology is quite simple and economical. the 2nd International Symposium on Frontier of Applied Physics (ISFAP 2016), IOP Journal of Physics: Conference Series
