Keberadaan Pulai (Alstonia spp.) di Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon dan upaya perbanyakannya untuk bahan baku kerajinan maupun obat tradisional
Pulai (milkwood) refers to a group of Alstonia species which is commonly used byIndonesian people to make handicrafts and various household utensils or to prepare traditional medication. Some villagers around Ujung Kulon National Park, Banten, collect the wood of pulai from nearby forest to produce commercial rhino sculptures for their income. Consequently, the population of pulai in this National Park may have been severely affected by such practices. This present study was conducted to provide information on the diversity of pulai used by the villagers and to relate it with the diversity and existing pulai population in Ujung Kulon National Park forest areas. Seed germination of pulai was also studied to investigate the regeneration capacity of the plant and to promote its propagation for more sustainable uses.
